Too Many Have Died For It

Thank a veteran or active duty soldier today for your freedom -all that you take for granted. Thank them for their sacrifices and for their family’s sacrifices.

Look how young these recruits they are!

Unfortunately our US servicemen and women and our veterans are some of the most unappreciated and underpaid people in the workforce, and they never go on strike or protest for higher wages and better pensions.

  • Take for instance just the freedom to read or write this blog. Dija ever hear of Yoani Sánchez? She’s a blogger in Cuba (the place, you may recall where Michael Moore cherishes their health care over ours) who has been beaten and arrested for things that she writes. Her blog is called Generation Y. Check it out. It’s translated into 15 languages. Look especially at the How to help page.
  • And no matter what side of the issue you stand, don’t what about gay marriage or civil unions. There are many countries where homosexual activity is forbidden and punishable by death like Uganda for instance and Muslim countries in general.
  • What about free speech with dictators and thugs like Iran’s Ahmadinejad and Mexico’s President Calderon coming to America to lecture us on how we should do things. Don’t think for a minute the reverse would ever happen -it ain’t gonna.
  • What about the freedom to take an idea and with your hard work, dedication and self-sacrifice build a business? Then take the fruits of your labor and buy what you want and choose where you want to live?

These are but a very few of the freedoms we take for granted. I did not get to the right to keep and bear arms or the protection from unreasonable search and seizure, or the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury and all the rest. I think you get the point. Just don’t take them (our freedom and liberty) lightly. Too many men and women and moms and dads have suffered too great a loss if you do.

Aloha, Mikie
