Today’s post poses a simple question. Which is scarier?
- The recent 5-4 ruling by the US Supreme Court upholding the 2nd Amendment? (the scary part is why it wasn’t 9-0?).
- That with Senator Robert Byrd’s passing, our very own Daniel Inouye is now 3rd in line for the Presidency after Vice President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi?
- That the financial reform bill before Congress (it’s another 2000+ pages bill nobody has read) does not even mention, let along rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?
Yep, 5 Supreme Court Justices recently affirmed American’s fundamental right to keep and bear arms, but why not all of them?? It’s a fundamental right guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. It’s just more proof to me that too many people in very high places within our government hold such blatant disregard for The Constitution. Watch for them now to go about infringing upon that right (“the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed“) with onerous registration rules, regulations and higher fees.
The next thing that scares the heck outta me is that Daniel Inouye now has secret service protection (and various other perks) as Senate President Pro-Tem (the individual third in line for presidential succession and a role filled by the Senate’s longest-serving member of the majority party). I know it’s a long shot -but if you’re not from here you may not know how out of touch he is or how long he’s been in office, so I’ll clue you in – it’s going on 48 years! That’s just to dang long!
So finally, the last question gnawing at me is how has Fannie and Freddie managed to stay below the radar on this financial overhaul still being debated in Congress? You know the one that’s supposed to protect consumers from Wall Street and those dishonest lenders and the derivative dealers? Well, it may have something to do with the fact that Christopher Dodd, though on his way out after getting caught in the middle of massive sweetheart deals from Countrywide Home Loans (Angelo and friends) has his finger prints all over the bill which means he’s feathering his bed for ‘life after Congress’.
There’s not a good 1-2-3 order of preference here. They all stink!
