ShelterBox USA-Disaster Relief in a Box!

This is an update to Fool Me Once . . .

I mentioned Rotary International as a great place for your donation dollars where the overhead is mostly unpaid volunteers -as opposed to Red Cross whose CEO makes over $500,000/year, and I was reminded of the ShelterBox project.

ShelterBoxes provide shelter and life saving equipment (a tent for up to 10 people, cookers, pots, pans, utensels, blankets, water purification system, toolkit, etc.) that no other organization in the world provides. Volunteer teams assemble the boxes, then ship a team ahead to receive and distribute them and their goal is to serve 500,000 people a year!

Starting as the brainchild of one Rotarian with the support of his Rotary club in year 2000 – ShelterBox has grown to become the largest Rotary Club project in the 100 year history of the organization.

**As a side note, according to Charity Navigator you’ve already donated to the Red Cross of America as it received $100 Million in government bailout money in 2008 despite having over a $1.67 billion in assets. So this time try Rotary or ShelterBoxUSA – Japan really needs us all to give a little or give a lot. Just give!

Aloha, Mikie
