Autograph of the Anoited One Apparently Worth $195

One hundred ninety-five dollars. That’s the value the “Obama For America” re-election campaign has apparently ascribed to the signature of the President. That in itself seems crude, but it gets worse.

According to the Daily Caller, the campaign is sponsoring a contest seeking poster submissions from artists across the country illustrating ‘why we support Obama’s plan to create jobs now and why we’ll re-elect him to continue fighting for jobs for people for the next four years’ (oh brother). But, here’s the clincher, Obama wants the artists to do the work for free! As if artists don’t have rent or mortgages to pay, kids to feed, not to mention ‘necessarily sky-rocketing’ electricity bills he’s so famous for.

The prize for the 3 contest winners is a framed edition of their own artwork signed by Barack Obama with an approximate retail value of $195.00 (according to the campaign).

This really gets those artists working again, doesn’t it? What a total clod. But they didn’t take it lying down. In an open letter to the Obama For America Campaign they expressed their outrage. Lisa Shaftel of the Graphic Artists Guild (a union BTW) calls it shameful,

“American artists should be outraged that our President does not recognize that we are entitled to be paid for our work, as are all Americans. How obvious is this irony:  A crowd-sourced contest soliciting free work (spec work) from American artists for the purpose of promoting legislation to create jobs”.

But Obama has no shame. And after Joe Biden’s claim that rapes and murders will continue to rise if the Republicans don’t pass the snow-Jobs Bill, I’d say neither does he.

Aloha, Mikie
