Ca$h 4 Clunkers -Ray Ra!

August 21, 2009

Now that the Cash for Clunkers program has burned through the $3 billion dollars (as in one thousand millions, times three) allotted by Congress, let’s take a closer look at what this bill was purported to be and what it really turned out to be.

THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE BILL IS:  CONSUMER ASSISTANCE TO RECYCLE AND SAVE ACT OF 2009.  Don’t you just love how sweet and innocent they caption the legislation monikers? And, it’s purpose was to accelerate motor fuel savings nationwide and provide incentives to registered owners of high polluting automobiles to replace such automobiles with new fuel efficient and less polluting automobiles or public transportation. Hold the fort! This is the first I’ve ever heard that Ca$h 4 Clunkers intended to have people with high polluting cars switch to public transportation. You mean sell your old POS (piece of SH_T) car to a dealer, walk away with $3500-$4500 and find the nearest bus stop? I don’t think so! But it sounds good.

Is America so rich it can afford to throw away perfectly good working cars?

Is America so rich it can afford to throw away perfectly good working cars?

I’d venture to say that most of the cars being demolished are way better than my first car was or for that matter, than the majority of the family cars we had growing up.

Here’s another thing. Dealers have submitted close to 500,000 applications but the DOT, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has only processed and approved a fraction of those applications causing distress and concern from dealers who are left holding the bag and waiting for reimbursement. The application is 13 pages long and many dealers have had to hire extra staff just to process the paperwork!

So what else is good about $4C? Good GREEN policy? I don’t think so. Just think almost 500,000 applications X 13 pages. Hum that’s a lot of paper. And how about clogging up the landfills with all that scrap metal? And what about the axiom of no waste? To crush perfectly good running cars and render than no more than a heap of rusting metal is a crime. Imagine the hit on the working poor who drive these clunkers. They just killed the independent used car sales businesses all over the country and charities are eating too. First they’re going to disallow charitable donations from wealthy donors, kicking them in the knees, now they’ve severely impacted car donations to charities.

Well if nothing else, maybe just maybe it will be a wake up call to those who think the government will run health care smoothly or efficiently. Doctors if you think medicare and medicaid reimbursements are slow now wait till UNCLE SAM is running the whole show.

That’s it for now!

The 2% Lie So Oft Heard & Repeated

April 28, 2011

According to Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski (ranking member on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee) the government has told us since 1919 that America is running out of oil. The lie:

“The US has about 2 or 3 percent of the world’s proven oil reserves, but we use 25% of the world’s oil.”

Murkowski says the US’ recoverable oil resources are estimated at 157 bb (billion barrels). Additionally there is roughly 900 bb of unconventional oil resources nearing commercialization. But the lie gets repeated and commissions, studies and ‘get to the bottom of this’ exposés do too.

In case you slept through the latest one:  Obama seeks the cause of high gas prices as the Justice Department will look for cases of fraud or manipulation in the oil markets. He’s thrilled about the Birther distraction hoping you won’t notice the Fed still printing money driving down the dollar. He’d really rather get to more adult stuff like filming for Oprah!

Obama’s answer of developing renewable energy sources are slow and costly and no good in the near or even mid-term. Just ask Spain who experimented with massive “green economy initiatives” and is now in economic collapse with a 19% unemployment rate. In America just think cash for clunkers or GM’s heavily subsidized and failing green LEAF car, etc.

Senator Murkowski sums it up:

“If our country endeavored to produce more oil, we could slash imports and stanch the flow of dollars sent to foreign suppliers (all of them our enemies –my words here). At the same time, we could create thousands of jobs and generate hundreds of billions of dollars in government revenue. Our most effective energy strategy is to have oil work itself out of a job by using revenue from production to facilitate the deployment of alternatives.”

Oh, and BTW if you’re still swallowing that oil companies make too much profit check out these other companies and compare. According to Yahoo! finance for the most recent quarterly reports available:

  • Exxon Mobil (XOM) profit margin = 8.89%
  • Apple (APPL) profit margin = 22.36%
  • Microsoft (MSFT) profit margin = 30.84%
  • Google (GOOG) profit margin = 28.43

Why no commissions to demonize these evil capitalist profiteers?

Loreal or Lady Clairol?

August 18, 2009

How out of touch is this guy? Our beloved Senator from the 50th State, Daniel K. Inouye is quoted in the paper this morning while speaking to the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Kona, that Americans need to spend more, adding, “People may think saving their money is the best financial bet, but, the senator said, “the money saved may cost workers their jobs” -unless they’re in the Union (my annotation, hee-hee). And as an aside by the way, he said:

“It may please you or it may not please you, I’m the No. 1 earmarks guy in the U.S. Congress.”

Uh, hello . . . isn’t that kind of thinking responsible for how we got in this mess to begin with? Definitely it is, and I think it’s about time, no make that way overdue for him to retire. And not just because he’s 85 years old and been in Congress for 47 years!

Loreal or Lady Clairol?

Loreal or Lady Clairol?

Here are some of his recent and past votes in Congress:

  • Voted YES for original Stimulus Package under Bush
  • Voted YES for all Bailouts so far
  • Voted YES for extending funding for the Cash for Clunkers program
  • Voted YES for the 2009 Economic Spending bill
  • Voted YES for the 2nd Economic Spending bill
  • Voted NO requiring reinforced border fencing
  • Voted YES in confirming Timothy ‘the tax cheat’ Geithner as Treasury Secretary
  • Is all over in favor of huge government health-care take over

Is the kind of behavior your own family or a small business displays in these tough times when so many are broke or out of work or furloughed or cut back in hours? Of course not! It’s time more of us and especially our elected officials started to live within our means. IF THERE WAS EVER A CASE FOR TERM LIMITS – HE IS IT!

That’s it for now!

Hasty Retreat -The Feds Got Caught

August 4, 2009

I’ll bet you didn’t see this tasty tidbit anywhere in the mainstream media, but there’s more than a few reasons NOT to extend the CASH FOR CLUNKERS program. Never mind that it’s just another bailout. You know we’re all sick of those -until it’s something we want.

“Yeah, I was going to buy a car anyway. Mine gets crappy mileage so why not take a ‘free’ handout from the government?”

But what people don’t realize is the open sesame to blatant intrusion right into our own computers when accessing the CARS.gov website. This was not covered by mainstream media or  their blogs, but a ‘Constitutional Watchdog’ saw it when logging on to Cars.gov and reported it to Fox News. They went right to the White house to inquire about it and were told they were “re-working the language”, and then low and behold the CARS.gov access disclaimer disappeared completely from the Cars.gov website, begging the question, are they still accessing the info but not telling you? And what about the computers they already invaded before they got caught?

By the way, this program was so well thought out it was supposed to last through November and it ran out in less than a week! How’s that for government planning and accurate projections? Think Medicaid and Medicare, Health Care Reform and Cap & Trade and other government programs if you decide to accept government cost estimates as the real deal.

And what real good does it do American car companies? Did you know only 47% of the Cash For Clunkers trade-ins went for cars sold by Detroit’s Big-3? The rest went to foreign car makers.

But the most frightening thing about Cash For Clunkers is it gave the government a chance to wedge their way into your computers if you were a car dealer using the program or if you were a customer who’s data was entered into those computers. The Feds now have legal access to that information. Watch this video and see what I mean. THIS IS FRIGHTENING! It’s beyond frightening and America, you better wake up!

Red Flags With Green Bulbs

January 22, 2011

Not Necessarily So alerted you to Green indoctrination (to imbue with a usually partisan opinion and lacking in real critical thought or analysis on the part of the indoctrinee) in our schools, and pointed to the fact that CFLs contain neurotoxic mercury, so if the bulbs are broken or improperly disposed of when they burn out they are VERY BAD for the environment.

Upon further research in response to comments received I have learned that CFLs also emit UV radiation and “dirty” electricity and can cause headaches, skin rash and retinal damage. The jury is still out as to whether they contribute to skin cancer. They can trigger migraines and affect people suffering from lupus. When used with dimmer switches, they have caused fires. And, the effects of CFLs is cumulative.

The energy bill Congress passed and Bush signed into law in 2007 will effectively ban traditional bulbs by 2014. Another example of what happens when government tries to micromanage our lives through more regulation. Reminds me of Cash4Clunkers and other such government folly.
