Is this our future people? For all practical purposes we already guarantee economic security for those unwilling to work and have for a long time. It’s called welfare and food-stamps, free daycare, rent-free apartments, free baby & infant formula, free pet food, free glasses & prescriptions, free school supplies, diaper assistance programs, free infant car seats, free cell phones and internet service, free air-conditioners, free transportation, free home repair, free legal programs, and on and on, so this should not come as any great surprise to anyone. This is why you must work till about mid-April just to pay your taxes.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (I like to call her AOC or if I’m feeling really snippy, Alex Occasional Cortex), just wants it codified into law through her Green New Deal. But it’s worse than that. AOC has no problem saying that such an overhaul would require “massive government intervention.” Wow!
Here are some of the other features of the Green New Deal from the FAQs released by her office -but later removed after the immediate back-lash:
- 100 percent of the power in the US to be “clean, renewable,” and from “zero-emission energy sources” in 10 years
- to build high-speed train lines so flying is less necessary
- to create millions of good, high-wage jobs and ensure prosperity and economic security for all people of the United States
- to secure for all people of the United States for generations to come clean air & water, climate community resiliency, healthy food, access to nature, and a sustainable environment, to promote justice and equity by stopping current, preventing future, and repairing historic oppression of indigenous peoples, communities of color, migrant communities, deindustrialized communities, depopulated rural communities, the poor, low-income workers, women, the elderly, the unhoused, people with disabilities, and youth referred to in this resolution as ‘‘frontline and vulnerable” communities.
Not surprisingly the White House lambasted the Green New Deal climate resolution spearheaded by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) this week slamming it as a “central planning disaster” and “a roadmap to destroy the American Economy.”
