Health Care’s Dirty Little Secret

October 16, 2009

First of all, how can anyone call this bipartisan when ONLY ONE REPUBLICAN VOTED FOR IT!? Oh yes, well Obama does. But more importantly let’s look at the dirty little secret about the Senate Finance Committee’s version of Health Care Reform that passed 14-9 recently.

Beside the fact that the taxes to pay for this health care reform start this January and the benefits don’t even kick in until 2013, THE ACTUAL BILL HAS NOT BEEN WRITTEN -THEY HAVE VOTED ON LEGISLATION TO BE COMPLETED! Not a draft, an outline or an outline of a draft was anywhere in the room when a majority of the Senate Finance Committee raised their hands and passed this. Now all the various players from the competing health care bills will meet in private behind closed doors and hammer out what will end up going to President Obama to sign. This is where they screw the constituents and take out all the things they promised us, like verifications to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving health care, no federal dollars would pay for abortions, etc.

To guard Congress and the American public against a fast-tracked, middle-of-the-night version of ObamaCare, Senate Republicans, joined by eight Democratic colleagues, have proposed a three-day waiting period on all health care legislation so that it can be ‘exposed to the light of day.’ For most Americans, a three-day waiting period seems like a reasonable idea-even though Obama promised a 5-day public review of all key legislation in the campaign.

You can support this 3-day waiting period just click here, register and tell Congress that you support a three day waiting period for health care legislation. You can make a difference today. Tell them you want the 3 day waiting period!

That’s my Tip of the Day!

That’s it for now!

Love Letters From The White House

August 16, 2009
Emails from the White House -like Love Letters in the Sand!

Emails from the White House -better than Love Letters in the Sand!

I guess this is part of Obama fulfilling his government transparency campaign promise. Don’t ask me how I got on their list, but every now and then I get emails from the White House. A recent one was to spread the real truth about Obama-care.

It is signed by David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Obama and directs me to various websites and provides 3 separate ‘lists of eight’ (eight must be an auspicious number -I’ll have to research that one!):

  • 8 ways reform provides security and stability to those with or without coverage
  • 8 common myths about health insurance reform
  • 8 Reasons We Need Health Insurance Reform Now

Here is my response to David Axelrod’s email concerning health care.

Dear Mr. Axelrod,

Thank you for the websites debunking health care myths. I will study them and decide for myself who is lying and distorting what.

One thing however, that would make all lawmakers jobs easier (not to mention transparent!) would be if ALL BILLS PROPOSED WERE WRITTEN IN LAYMAN’S TERMS, i.e., PLAIN ENGLISH, NOT GOVT-SPEAK! I have tried to read and make sense of House Bill 3200, “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009” (1037 pages if I recall) and it’s difficult at best and honestly downright impossible to follow. This is probably intentional and if not it shows how out of touch Congress is with the American people.

Now simply stated, here are 3 easy things if implemented would really cut down on the ballooning cost of Health Care:

1)  TORT REFORM. You have got to give Doctors a reason not to practice defensive medicine. The American Trial Lawyers Association won’t like this (whoops I’m sorry, that’s most of Congress isn’t it?) but you cannot control costs without it.

2)  NO FREE TREATMENT FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. It’s humane to provide care for illegal immigrants, but they must pay for it.

3)  INSTITUTE A NOMINAL CO-PAY SYSTEM. Anyone receiving any health care will pay a nominal co-pay fee for services rendered. This will drastically cut down on frivolous visits to hospitals, ERs, doctors, clinics, etc., and can go toward covering or subsidizing those who cannot pay for insurance.

Sincerely,

Your friend, Michelle Kerr

That’s it for now!
