Was Ron Paul a mean old man or a good steward of our Constitution??

August 13, 2018

Of course Ron Paul is no longer in Congress (though his son Rand is a Senator) and these discussions took place a few years ago, but it’s good to highlight when some in Congress used to do their job. I heard this on a recent Adam Corolla show podcast. His is the #1 podcast on iTunes, so you may want to check it out.

But I digress. Congressman Paul used to have a sign on his desk that read:

“Don’t steal, the government hates competition.”

Ron Paul voted “No” on awarding Congressional Gold Medals to anyone

Paul voted against awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to Mother Teresa all the while extolling her virtues and praising her good works. He has also voted against giving the medal to Rosa Parks, the Pope, Tony Blair, the Dalai Lama, Frank Sinatra, South African President Nelson Mandela, Arnold Palmer, Charles Schultz (creator of the Peanuts cartoon), and untold others. He always voted against awarding the Congressional Medals to anyone and he was usually the lone dissenting vote.

Was Ron Paul just an angry, stingy old man? No he just disapproved of spending government money on such awards.  I don’t know how much gold is actually in these medals, and most are probably bronze these days but that’s not the point. According to Ron Paul Forums, Paul believed that every member of Congress who voted in favor of awarding the Congressional Gold Medal ought to contribute enough money to raise the funds for the medal, since the implied powers of Congress don’t include robbing the American people to pay for feel-good political gestures. Can I get an “Amen”?

He believes in the US Constitution and this spending is not authorized by the Constitution. On C-SPAN he said,

If you’re willing to bend the rules a little bit for seemingly unimportant issues and small amounts of money, you’ll do it for the big issues such as war. So if you want to believe in the Constitution and the Republic, you have to obey and rules and laws all the time. You can’t just pick and choose…”

He swore an oath just like all the rest of them did, so how’d we get where we are today?

Seal Team-6 Scores Again While TSA Continues Their Kabuki Dance of Security & Protection

January 26, 2012

Ray-rah, go Seal Team-6! Another daring feat by our American Navy Seals. Two aid workers, one American and a Dane kidnapped in October by Somali terror group Al-Shabab were rescued by the Seals this week.

Who is Al-Shabab? An Islamic terror group who’s stated aim according to The Daily Beast, is to overthrow the government of Somalia and impose its strict version of Islam. It has also declared war on the UN and Western non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as evidenced by these recent kidnappings. And they have been the most successful group at recruiting the youth of America and Canada.

Meanwhile the TSA and our ‘bass-akward’ Department of Homeland Security insists on random screening at the airports, harassing those frightful U.S. Senators, young children or the elderly in wheelchairs in the kabuki dance of protection and security.

It’s crazy. They should be profiling -there I said it, and I’m not original in this thinking. This is not rocket science.

Homeland Security need not apply

The Donald Nails It

February 13, 2011

I like what Donald Trump says, but who could ever take him seriously as a presidential candidate with that hair-do? His handlers surely must have advised him to lose it, wouldn’t you think?

But hey, maybe the Donald doesn’t have handlers. That would be a plus on the ‘he’s genuine’ scale but still, I like what he says. He’s right on in regard to China:

  • They are making a laughing stock of America
  • They take our money (in trade), suck it out of us -then lend it back to us!
  • Their products are 100% inferior (remember the pet food, toothpaste, lead-tainted toys and jewelery, and bad drywall?)
  • They lie and cheat at the Olympic games
  • Their human rights and environmental record is a travesty, and
  • Trump would slap a 25% tax on all Chinese imports immediately to bring them to honest negotiations on the currency manipulation

Imagine the irony of Obama, last years Nobel Prize winner (yeah, go figure) rolling out the red carpet for Chinese President Hu, whos own Nobel Peace Prize winner is detained in prison!

And Trump is right, Ron Paul will never win the GOP nomination, despite winning the straw poll at CPAC for the 2nd year in a row. Paul’s winning appeal is that he talks honestly about the real issues most Americans care about (sounds like Palin -even though she’s not electable either). But Paul doesn’t believe he’ll get the nomination either.

His job and he’s great at it, is to raise the tough issues other candidates will only skirt around.

He’ll be great in the debates because he’ll force other candidates to go on record regarding these ‘land mine’ issues. BTW, Romney doesn’t have a chance either unless he convincingly denounces Romneycare (Obamacare light), which so far he hasn’t done.
