They reap too much in power and campaign contributions giving favored tax treatment to special interest groups, big business and their friends.

Not Great For the ‘Little Guy’

January 21, 2011

Okay this will only take 1 minute, so if you hate Glenn Beck grit your teeth and watch it. He is just the messenger. Unfortunately you won’t see it anywhere else.

Now, if you cherish your freedom, watch it again and pass it on and urge your House and Senate representatives to REPEAL and REDO OBAMACARE! I’ve made it easy to do:

House Members by State

Senate Members by Name or State

And, if you don’t think this is gonna result in massive health care costs and taxes I want to know what you’re smoking!

Special Tax Favors

January 14, 2011

Over the last 5 days I wasted a lot of time doing GET taxes for the State of Hawaii (for the privilege of doing business -ha!) and Federal and State Estimated taxes that are due on Jan 20th. I hate it!

Most people probably wouldn’t admit it, but I’ll bet everybody is or has been at one time or another a little bit intimidated by the IRS or State Tax Dept. Naturally those in thick with the politicians who have the proper amount of influence and willingness to grease the skids, aren’t intimidated by the IRS because they’re used to having the tax code modified (600 changes in 2010 alone) to favor their personal or business situation.

A quick Google search -key words “special tax consideration” netted me 7,460,000 results in 0.10 seconds. Is it any wonder that by the IRS’ own admission, our tax code now has 3.8 million words, which would fill 11,045 single-spaced pages? And compliance is expensive! estimates citizens and businesses spend about $300 million every year to figure out our taxes!

If you don’t qualify for special tax consideration, here’s some friendly advise.

There’s a better way -Simplify the Tax code!

It can be done but not without a lot of Americans like you and me writing Congress demanding tax reform. Here’s how to contact your Congressmen and women and here’s a list of all US Senators. They’re waiting for your call (with special operators standing by -NOT). The truth is you have to be persistent, leave a message with their staff and tell them you expect them to support tax reform to help get the country and the economy back on track.

Get informed be a part of the change we so desperately need.

Voluntary? Baloney!

January 7, 2011

Is Harry Reid intentionally being dense or does he think we’re all stupid?

Contrary to what the good Senator from Nevada says, Dick Armey, retired Congressman from Texas and a long time proponent for tax reform tells it like it is:

“Washington is the only city in America that makes its entire living off the rest of the country. The city produces nothing. It only taxes, regulates, spends, and compels through the use of force.”

Based on your experience with taxation in America, who ya gonna trust Harry or Dick?

Are you ready for a different tax system? I am.

It Sucks Productivity

December 31, 2010

Yea, my taxes aren't going up tomorrow!

Starting tomorrow everyone is happy. The Obama Tax Increases didn’t happen – at least for 2 years. That’s all we bought after monumental debate and historic legislation heralded as bipartisan cooperation~ finally, on Obama’s part.

You can still hear the griping though from those who say the wealthy pay too little, when in fact according to Business Insider, the top 10 percent of earners pay about 71 percent of all the income taxes collected. And our current tax system exempts almost half the country from paying for programs that benefit everyone like national defense, public safety, infrastructure and education. That’s right, 47% pay no federal income tax at all.

But to be fair even those who escape federal income taxes still pay a heap other taxes, including federal payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare, and excise taxes on gasoline, aviation, alcohol and cigarettes. Many also pay state or local taxes on sales, income and property.

So we’ve got 2 years gang to push from the bottom up for tax reform. Otherwise you’re gonna see a repeat of all the class warfare, special tax deals for special friends of politicians, union vote for tax credits to certain groups and special treatment, etc., etc.

Bottom line, we as a nation spend too much time and money trying to either comply with or avoid taxes. It’s a mega-productivity drain. So let’s look at 5 simple but radical ideas from Kevin Boyd of Liberty United to reform our tax code.

1) Create a simple, two-bracket tax system with only three deductions: 8% on the first $25,000, and 14% on the rest. The only deductions: a $6,000 standard deduction ($12,000 for married couples), a $4,000 exemption for dependents who don’t file their own tax returns, and all taxpayers would be able to claim charitable contributions up to 35% of adjusted gross income. Period –no other deductions.

2) Create a minimum tax in order to reduce non-paying filers. There should be a minimum tax that everyone pays. Get some skin in the game and suddenly you’re more cognizant of where our tax money goes.

3) Reduce the corporate tax rate to 15%. It’s currently 35% so you’d see businesses and jobs come back to the US and competition would soar.

4) Abolish the capital gains tax and taxes on savings. This would free up capital, funding expansion and encourage people to save more.

5) End withholding. Americans don’t know how much they really pay in taxes. If we had to write the checks directly to the IRS quarterly, we would have tax and entitlement reform immediately!

The Govt’s Hand in Your Pocket

December 24, 2010

Here’s Bob to explain the VAT tax. He’s easily excited so you may have to watch it more than once, but he’s definitely got the basics.

Pay attention whenever you hear this tax (VAT or Value Added Tax) floated as an idea for America and be prepared to fight it tooth and nail because we won’t like it one bit.

Bad Odds

December 17, 2010

And a dead weight on the economy! We have the 2nd highest taxes in the world. If you call the IRS hot-line 25-30% of the time you’re gonna get the wrong answer (and they’ll hold you responsible)! If you doubt it try calling the IRS with a specific question (OK, maybe if you’re unemployed or bored), then try it 3 more times. I’ll bet you get at least a couple of wildly divergent answers.

Enjoy this week’s installment on tax reform! Be sure to see my Tax Reform Videos (Categories in the right side panel) to raise your tax reform IQ!
