I like this guy in Argentina! He’s Trump but better.

We’ve traveled in Argentina a few years ago (2012) and we saw first-hand what a number of years of socialism had done to that once great, prospering city of Buenos Aires. People were literally dumpster-diving for food and recyclable goods they could sell. Not a bum here and there, regular groups, often families scouring the streets for the “best” dumpsters. They came out about sunset and worked through the night.

Tucker Carlson’s interview with Argentina’s presidential candidate, Javier Milei (who has crazy hair like Trump does!) is amazing and sadly it points in a direction the United States is headed unless something changes pretty damn quick.

We were warned before we went to Argentina not to wear expensive jewelry in public. I recall exchanging my relatively minuscule diamond engagement ring & gold wedding ring for a simple silver band specifically for our South American trip. We’d heard stories of their currency being devalued by one half over night during the economic downturn in 2001! And of course the Argentine Peso has been devalued several times since then as on socialist government after another ran the country into the ground. Barter clubs sprang up when jobs, security and cash were scarce. Club members shuffle in carrying sacks stuffed with everything from homemade clothing to homegrown vegetables, set up their stands and begin a day of bartering. Each item brought to the club is given a value by its owner, who then trades it with other members for whatever goods or services they are offering. Another telling sign was when we left to return home. At the airport we hit a cambio (foreign exchange booth) to change our remaining pesos back into American greenbacks. To our shock and dismay, they didn’t want their pesos back and they certainly didn’t want to have to let loose of any U.S. dollars to make the exchange. That’s the first and only time we’ve experienced that!

Is this our future? I hope and pray not.

My new mantra –> Do NOT Comply!

Aloha, Mikie (just a blogger, fighting like a girl)
