Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha! The Faithless Electors Bailed Alright, They Went For Bernie And Non-Candidates!

                  

How does that feel Hill? Yes you sat back and encouraged and hoped that the coup on the left and your favorite Pajama-boy groupie celebs would sway electors to change their vote and dump Trump. But something else  happened. They instead dumped you! Here’s how it came down. According to the LA Times, in the end, seven electors voted for a person other than the candidate who won their states — the largest number of electoral college desertions in a presidential contest in U.S. history, eclipsing a record set in 1808.

Two Texas Republican electors defected from Trump. One voted for former Representative Ron Paul, the other for Ohio Governor John Kasich. Eight Democratic electors tried to abandon Hillary Clinton but faithless elector laws in some states prevented would-be Hillary electors from bailing out. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell garnered 3 votes from Washington state Democratic electors, and a 4th vote in Washington went to Faith Spotted Eagle, a Native American elder who has protested oil pipeline projects in the Dakotas. Washington defectors by the way will be fined $1000.

In Maine, Democratic elector David Bright switched from Hillary to Sanders, but his vote was disallowed under Maine state laws regarding elector behavior. Likewise In Colorado and Minnesota electors were thwarted from defecting from Hillary, but they wanted to. And Hawaii wouldn’t be one of only 6 blue-blue states (WA, OR, CT, RI, MD and HI) without at least one Democratic defector who went for Bernie “the socialist” Sanders.

And seeking to nip this sort of behavior in the bud for future Electoral College proceedings, staunch constitution conservative Republican Governor Greg Abbot announced Monday that a bill had already been filed in Texas to make the electors’ commitments binding. Every state should do this so we don’t have this drama in the future.
